photographers ask me what I wear to weddings. I tell them I wear DRESSES and they GASP! Well, I don’t really know if they gasp, but their response is something like this: “Really?, Isn’t that restricting?! And aren’t you uncomfortable?!”. The answer to those questions is no. I really love it and I feel more comfortable in a cute dress than in anything else. I want to look like a “Professional Guest”. I have attended weddings where the photographers wear what looks like a black jumpsuit…not cool. If that works for them, that’s great! … It just doesn’t work for me. I want to blend into the crowd and still look stylish and professional. I’m a direct
representation of my brand at EVERY wedding I shoot. Some photographers don’t really dress up too much for weddings because they”re working and sweating and moving around constantly… well there is a way to be professional, stylish AND practical! These pictures show me in my FAVORITE wedding outfit. I LOVE this $40 Target dress! When I wore it to shoot my cousin’s wedding, the zipper got stuck when I was trying to get it on and for a few minutes, I thought it was a goner! AHHH!!! However, my dad fixed it and it’s all better. Whew! Daddy can fix anything:)
So I love this dress for many reasons. It has ALL the qualifications for a good “shooting” dress. Here are my qualifications:
1. It can’t show sweat
2. Modest is Hottest…(yes I just said that) It can’t be too short or too low cut in the front.
3. POCKETS
4. Breathable!
5. Fashionable!
6. Durable!
Now I know that a Target dress that gets used over and over is not going to last years and years. So next wedding season, I’ll go on a hunt for a NEW shooting dress that meets my specifications!! My point is, I think it’s important to LOOK PROFESSIONAL & STYLISH at my weddings. People are watching and potential clients are at every wedding and they are looking to see how you present yourself and your brand! However, this is just me and my opinion!
** For all of you out there that ask “How do you squat down or move around?”. Well, I just do it! This past wedding I was shooting and squatting in the middle of the road and if you squat with your knees together, there really isn’t an issue!**
Thank you to Michael for getting up and doing a 5 second photoshoot of his wife in the front yard… I promise the neighbors didn’t see.
Kelly is an incredible wedding photographer who has been shooting 90 weddings a year. I know, it sounds unbelievable, but it’s true! Kelly’s success and the volume of work she handles is truly impressive.
