Everytime that we are flown somewhere to photograph a wedding, I have a hard time believing that it’s real life. Having us photograph a wedding is an investment at this stage in our business. So to have someone invest in not only our Wedding Experience but also pay to fly us several states away is an incredible honor! In some ways, there is so much more pressure in a situation like this. I knew from the time that Courtney first emailed me that if I had the chance to photograph her wedding day, I needed to do an amazing job. Not only was she bringing me across the country, she is also a photographer herself!!!!
As soon as we arrived we were so impressed with the gorgeous setting. The lake was beautiful and the water was crystal clear!! It was the perfect setting for an intimate wedding on a Thursday! Scott and Courtney were surrounded by 75 family and friends as they shared their vows on the shoreline of Gun Lake. It was absolutely perfect….. no rain… no humidity, and a beautiful sunset!
One thing that made Scott and Courtney’s day unique was the Scottish influence. Kilts, bagpipes and Scottish ceremonial traditions were included throughout the day to honor Scott’s heritage. I have to say, this was a first for me! I’ve never photographed a wedding where all of the groomsmen are in kilts! It was such a sweet and special way to make their wedding extra special and to honor Scott’s family.
We arrived at Bay Pointe Inn on Gun Lake and immediately felt relieved when we opened the car doors and felt a cool breeze! I know the winters in Michigan are tough but their summer weather is just amazing!!! We felt like we were shooting a fall wedding in Virginia and it was glorious!
The property itself isn’t huge and so Scott and Courtney were so trusting when I asked them to use unique and unassuming areas for their portraits! They climbed into flower beds, stood on wobbly docks, and stepped into a hydrangea bush all for the sake of great portraits, and I couldn’t have been more proud!!!
Michael and I love photographing their beautiful wedding day and we’re so thankful that they allowed us to bring my sister Emy along so that we can eventually share this wedding day with our KJ All Access family! Scott and Courtney, you are such an amazing couple. Thank you for allowing us into your life for this special season! It was truly an honor to capture your day for your families!
