I sure hope I’m not the only one who dealt with this. When I started my business it almost felt like I had split personalities. One day I considered myself to be a professional and other days I couldn’t believe I was asking people to pay me $1600 to take PICTURES!! I think I went back and forth between these two views of myself because I created this business all by myself. I never took a class, I didn’t have a degree in business OR photography, and I never had anyone tell me that I was qualified for the job! I just WENT for it!!!
So, when you look at it that way, it’s easy to understand why I struggled to view myself as a professional sometimes. I don’t struggle with this anymore and to be honest, I HID this struggle early on in my business. I was super confident and professional on the outside even though on the inside I was second-guessing so much of what I was doing. I think this happens to a lot of photographers. The most common way to know whether or not a photographer is struggling with confidence and viewing themselves as a professional is through their pricing.
Yep. I said it! So many photographers do not charge what they are worth because they don’t view themselves as professionally as others do. I totally understand the struggle. However, I have had many mentors over the years who have taught me about the importance of raising my prices and I have overcome this hurdle in running my business! I just recently raised my prices because Michael and I don’t want to shoot 30+ weddings for a 5th year in a row in 2017. There are SO many reasons why photographers should raise their prices and sometimes they just need a little extra BOOST of confidence to take the leap and so I have created a resource to help with just that!!!
We’re excited to announce that we have a BRAND NEW FREE DOWNLOAD for photographers!!! If you’re on the fence with whether or not your prices need to be raised, this guide will help you! Now I can’t determine what EVERYONE’s pricing structure should look like but I can share what has helped me determine my pricing increases in the past!! I hope this FREE DOWNLOAD is helpful!! Ever felt that wave of anxiety before a photoshoot—the kind that makes your mind race with thoughts like What if I freeze? What if I run out of ideas? What if my clients feel awkward?
When it comes to wedding photography, the right lens can make all the difference. But let’s be honest—gear can get expensive. So when Canon introduced the RF 85mm f/2.0—a lens with portrait, macro, and image stabilization capabilities for just $500—I knew I had to put it to the test.
Have you ever started a session, camera in hand, and suddenly felt stuck? Your couple is standing there, looking at you, waiting for direction… and your mind goes blank.
Have you ever tried to sit down with your spouse to talk about dreams, goals, and vision—only for it to turn into frustration or misalignment? If so, you’re not alone. Vision casting in marriage is hard because it brings up deeper fears, beliefs, and unspoken dynamics that many couples don’t even realize are at play.
Success—it’s a word we hear all the time. But what does it really mean? Is it about financial security? Status? Owning a dream home or taking extravagant vacations?
When you think about your business, do you see it as simply a job—or something more?
