As we were flying into Detroit, I decided to take a look at the weather. It wasn’t very promising. There was a chance of rain all day and I was praying that we would have some dry weather for this sweet couple! They brought us all the way from Richmond after all!! As soon as we got to the church, I found a stone wall underneath the carport! It was pretty and the light was good… and I was relieved! We had a rain plan!
Thankfully, we only had to use the “rain plan” for part of the portraits! We shot some portraits outside of the church and then the other set of portraits were take on the side of the road… in the middle of suburbia!! And yet it still looks like we were away somewhere on a farm! I loved it! Not only did I love that location that we used but I also loved this sweet family. Meeting family members for the first time is one of the parts of the day that I really look forward to! Needless to say, Austin and Melissa’s families were incredibly fun to work with! They knew us by name and we immediately felt like a part of the family as soon as we stepped through the door!
Melissa and Austin looked like super stars but they definitely didn’t act like super stars. They were so chill and easy-going the entire time. They trusted us and that means the world. There is literally nothing better than a couple who is willing to do anything for great portraits! We love these two and we have been looking forward to this since they drove to Richmond for their engagement!!! We love their dynamic and sweet personalities! I just wished they lived closer!!!

Wedding days can be incredibly stressful for everyone involved. Photographers, brides, grooms, and guests alike often find themselves overwhelmed by the schedule and the numerous details that need attention. However, there are key “in-between” moments throughout the day that can be leveraged to create a smoother experience and better outcomes. As the photographer, you can calm the nerves of everyone there and capture their day beautifully!
This week, Michael is sitting down with me at the microphone to join me on the podcast! When we started our Acton Academy journey, we had big dreams and very little idea of the practical challenges that lay ahead. Today, in year three of running our own Acton Academy, Michael and I are thrilled to reflect on the incredible transformation we’ve seen in our learners, our community, and even our own perspectives on education.
Photography is an art that thrives on creativity and technique. If you don’t have the basics of lighting and posing down, this tip won’t work- but if you’re looking to elevate your style, this is for you!!
In this episode of “Doing Life Differently”, I sat down with my friend Catherine Guidry, a luxury wedding photographer and educator, to discuss the challenges and rewards of personal branding. Cat and I dug deep into how sharing more of ourselves—while still maintaining boundaries—can transform our businesses, relationships, and personal lives.
This is not a technical review filled with specs, but rather a practical perspective on how the R6 Mark II performs in everyday photography situations!
