There are things that EVERY photographer should have on their website! We will walk through some students’ websites to see how small changes can impact their perceived value, and for you to see if what they’re missing is something that you are too!
So let’s dive into the first website! When I first land on her site, I love the hero image! It’s a big & bold representation of her work. Perfect!! Here are some tips that apply to these websites and some things to check on yours!
I highly recommend using your name as your brand! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- if you are a photographer or offer a creative service, you are the value.. not your work. In this first example, since I don’t know her first name from her business name, I’m looking for that off the bat!
If clients are trusting you to capture a special day, they want to know YOU! Share your family, what you love, stories about your life and why you’re passionate about what you do!
Moving onto the second website, I noticed a few things! It says she does design & photography, which takes me back to my Inspired Designs days where I tried to do EVERYTHING. So if you’re hesitant to jumping fully in to one or the other, I would recommend you pick one!!
You only have a few seconds to make a first impression! You want to keep people on the site and continuing to navigate through it. Choose a picture that allows the menu to stand out, or you can add an opaque header box to make it visible.
Using bright colors can detract from the pictures that are amazing!!! A simple design can make a huge impact.
This could be a pop-up, or on a separate box when you scroll down! You want people to fall in love with you and your brand quickly when they get to your website!
Moving on to the third website, which is a little more family focused rather than wedding photographers!
Having too many pictures can distract the viewer and take away from the impact! Simplifying the home page can help someone see the value in each individual photo. Have one hero image that is super clear and then rotates to the next.
Bio is an outdated term and not as personable as ‘Meet Katelyn’ or ‘About Me!’ Clients want to see your personality and meet who you are! It’s just a simple change that can be more inviting.
These are all small changes that can make a big impact!!! I love design and could do this all day.. but I think these tips will get you thinking about your own website and how to see some holes that you are missing!!
