me blogging about taking our kids on Winter Retreat back in January. Well, if you don’t remember, you can view it HERE! We took them to Watermarks Camp in Scottsville, VA and we love that place! Absolutely love it! Michael and I went there in high school and then led retreats there when we were in college and now we’re bringing our own kids there! Crazy!! And when I say “kids” … you should know that I’m talking about our youth group kids…we consider them to be part of the family! And speaking of family, we have loved getting to know the Watermarks family so much over the last few years!
What an amazing team of people sold out to the Lord and the vision of this camp. My sister and brother and spent time as counselors there this summer and so we’ve been up to visit quite a few times! High Rise is the worship band at Watermarks and they were in need of some group shots. So Michael and I made an evening out of it and drove up last Thursday night. It was awesome to see everyone! I think everyone checking the blog knows that I am NOT a band photographer by any means! It’s really a little out of my comfort zone… but working with people that KNOW that this isn’t about THEM made it 10x easier.
This wasn’t a “hey lets see how awesome we can look” shoot, it was just a quick shoot to capture a few pictures for some upcoming projects. When you’re in a band and that band’s only goal is to lead more people toward Christ…. the normal pridefulness that comes along with being in front of people and using your talents should disappear…. because it’s really not about US. Our gifts and talents are nothing. This was such a great reminder for me. Sometimes I get caught up thinking that I have a TALENT for taking for capturing images and while that is something I’m striving to get better and better at…. I would have NOTHING if it wasn’t for the Lord. Absolutely nothing. He gave me the ability to do everything that I do…how dare I start thinking that I have made this business happen on my own. Gosh… I can be so DUMB sometimes!! In my opinion, pridefulness is one of the most UNATTRACTIVE characteristics in a human being. Lord help me if I ever get to a place where I think that I have made it to this place just out of shear work and will power. Not cool!
Just like the members of this band, God has given us all some incredibly unique abilities and I love seeing different people come together and use their abilities to form one sound! High Rise is a great example of this. It was great seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. If life wasn’t so busy during the summer, I think Michael and I would be just fine hanging out in Scottsville for a week! It’s so beautiful there!! So enjoy some of these images and here’s to a PRODUCTIVE Monday!!! So much to do, so little time!!!!!!!!!
ps. How AWESOME is this set-up?! LOVE the lightbulbs and vintage accents!!!
Honestly, I’ve known this girl my WHOLE life… love her to death… so she gets her own picture on the blog! Aren’t you kinda jealous of that hair?! I am.
Have you ever tried to sit down with your spouse to talk about dreams, goals, and vision—only for it to turn into frustration or misalignment? If so, you’re not alone. Vision casting in marriage is hard because it brings up deeper fears, beliefs, and unspoken dynamics that many couples don’t even realize are at play.
Success—it’s a word we hear all the time. But what does it really mean? Is it about financial security? Status? Owning a dream home or taking extravagant vacations?

Today, I’m diving into an experience that was nothing like I anticipated: my digital detox in December. If you’ve ever considered taking a break from the noise of the online world, you might relate to my journey—the good, the surprising, and the, well, completely unplanned.
The wedding industry has faced unique challenges recently, with inflation affecting budgets and couples cutting costs. If you’re a wedding photographer feeling the pinch, don’t worry—2025 doesn’t have to be a slow year.
Life has a way of surprising us, doesn’t it? Over the last few months, I’ve been on a medical rollercoaster that I never saw coming.
