You all know we love Big Spring Farm. Over the last two years is has grown from being a new home for our best friends to a place WE consider home! My sister got married there… we have shot some of our prettiest weddings there… we hosted an EPIC workshop there and we’ve made AMAZING memories there!!! Last weekend was no exception! Michael and I headed to Lexington after our Blacksburg engagement shoots and met up with some good friends of ours….. who just happen to be ENGAGED… and gorgeous… and photogenic!
We were going to just hang out then decided that because we were all together, we should go ahead a do a little shoot! The reason we did this impromptu engagement session was because my good friend Jill and I are actually shooting Calvin and Brittany’s wedding TOGETHER!!!!! AH! DREAM. COME. TRUE!! I love Jill. She just gets me. We shoot similarly in regards to posing and interacting with our couples and we’ve always said, “shoot, our days of photographing a wedding together are over!!! This is so sad!!”. Welp! This new years eve, our dreams are coming true! We’re photographing these two and their amazing wedding in Richmond and we couldn’t be more excited for them!!
We didn’t have much light on this overcast day but we did amazing light with the light that we DID have! We took a few shots in a quaint little area in downtown Lexington. After that, we crossed the creek and headed up to the most epic overlook. This view overlooks the gorgeous Big Spring Property and miles and miles of rolling hills in the background! I loved being able to capture a few pictures of these dear friends! Calvin and Brittany, you are such genuine, life giving friends and I can’t even begin to imagine all that God has in store for you two as a married couple!! Bring it on New Years!! We have one amazing celebration coming your way!!!
Love these boxwoods!!
You make this look so easy you two!! We took all of these in a matter of MINUTES!
Oh Brit! You are stunning! What I wouldn’t do for a model face like that! This is one of my favorites!
Love this too!! ah!
Love this so so much!
MAN they’re a gorgeous couple!! Come on wedding day!!! I can’t WAIT!
Other Big Spring Farm Weddings and Engagements :
I feel like I just wrote last week’s update, but somehow, another Friday is here. Time flies when life is full… and right now? Life is really full.
Every Friday, I’m sharing “Where I Am”—personally, spiritually, and professionally—because I believe in sharing the journey while I’m in it, not just when I have all the answers tied up in a neat little bow.
Sixteen years ago, I had no budget for marketing. Zero. None at all!
So I did the only thing I could think of—I started sharing my life.
Ever felt that wave of anxiety before a photoshoot—the kind that makes your mind race with thoughts like What if I freeze? What if I run out of ideas? What if my clients feel awkward?
When it comes to wedding photography, the right lens can make all the difference. But let’s be honest—gear can get expensive. So when Canon introduced the RF 85mm f/2.0—a lens with portrait, macro, and image stabilization capabilities for just $500—I knew I had to put it to the test.
Have you ever started a session, camera in hand, and suddenly felt stuck? Your couple is standing there, looking at you, waiting for direction… and your mind goes blank.
Have you ever tried to sit down with your spouse to talk about dreams, goals, and vision—only for it to turn into frustration or misalignment? If so, you’re not alone. Vision casting in marriage is hard because it brings up deeper fears, beliefs, and unspoken dynamics that many couples don’t even realize are at play.
