several classes with Justin and Mary and two years at WPPI… I’ve come away learning one really important thing. You need to WOW your clients. Be more than they ever expected and completely blow their expectation of you out of the water… and that yields FREE word-of-mouth marketing!! In my opinion, word-of-mouth is the best kind of marketing there is! It’s effective and I want that for my business. I also learned over the course of the past three years that I want to run a business that is RELATIONAL and PERSONAL. I want the brides that invest in
my business to be not only be my clients but my FRIENDS as well! This has worked extremely well for me since I started implementing my personality into my business 3 years ago. I’m at a place now where I’m attracting brides that are very similar to ME. We just get along and love spending time together!! So as I was thinking about Christmas gifts and ways to spoil my 2011 brides, I selfishly decided that I wanted to see them all again! I mean, I love them and I really don’t have a reason to see them again once their wedding is past, so a 2011 Katelyn James Brides get-together needed to happen! Besides, these girls have followed the blog for forever and have seen each other’s weddings and already feel like they know each other! How much fun would it be to get them all together in one place?! So after talking with a close friend (and 2011 bride:) about this idea, the light bulb came on! What about a SPA DAY?!!! Let’s invite ALL of my 2011 brides to the Red Door Spa in Shortpump and let them have a choice of either a facial, a massage or a mani/pedi combo!! We’ll eat Cinnamon Crunch bagels from Panera, catch up and it will be glorious!!!!! So over a month ago, I sent out the invitations and 15 of my 2011 brides got together this past Saturday! It was SO much fun for me to see all of these amazing women who have meant so much to me and my business this past year!! I walked in the women’s lounge and the girls were getting ready for their massages and I told them “Guys!! This is just surreal!!!” I had a whole year’s worth of client’s hanging out together in one place and loving it! It was amazing! I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with such amazing women this 2011 season!!!! I’m thankful for every single one of them and to all the brides that are out of town or had other plans, you have a little something coming in the mail and you were MISSED!!!
So MERRY CHRISTMAS to my wonderful brides!!!! Love you all!!
xoxo,
Katelyn (& Michael:)
ps. So sorry not everyone was in the group photo! Some ladies came early and some were having pedicure/skinny jean issues in the back when we shot this:):) haha
I embarrass Michael with my need to take self portraits in mirrors in public!
And Here’s a SUPER quick clip of the day!
Have you ever tried to sit down with your spouse to talk about dreams, goals, and vision—only for it to turn into frustration or misalignment? If so, you’re not alone. Vision casting in marriage is hard because it brings up deeper fears, beliefs, and unspoken dynamics that many couples don’t even realize are at play.
Success—it’s a word we hear all the time. But what does it really mean? Is it about financial security? Status? Owning a dream home or taking extravagant vacations?
When you think about your business, do you see it as simply a job—or something more?
Today, I’m diving into an experience that was nothing like I anticipated: my digital detox in December. If you’ve ever considered taking a break from the noise of the online world, you might relate to my journey—the good, the surprising, and the, well, completely unplanned.
The wedding industry has faced unique challenges recently, with inflation affecting budgets and couples cutting costs. If you’re a wedding photographer feeling the pinch, don’t worry—2025 doesn’t have to be a slow year.
Life has a way of surprising us, doesn’t it? Over the last few months, I’ve been on a medical rollercoaster that I never saw coming.
