Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

I remember being so worried that when I had kids and didn’t shoot 30+ weddings a year that I would lose my touch as a photographer and I would never create work that I was really proud of! It’s an interesting experience to have done a craft for over 10 years and to have the skills to capture what I hope to capture…. and yet force myself to think beyond what I know works and be creative!

Graham’s Seventh Month

This is the month that Graham decided that he wasn’t happy to just be sitting. It was frustrating to him watch Harper move and crawl and get wherever she wanted to go. He would sit and flap his arms up and down as hard as he could almost as if he was trying to fly. Poo guy! It’s tough being the youngest out of the whole crew! Graham’s 7th month included a big trip out to Arizona. His Aunt Emy went with us because this conference is where we get to see so many of our students and I need to be as present as possible while we’re there. It was such a gift to have Emy there! I didn’t document that trip on my DSLR but I did make sure that there are plenty of iPhone memories in the family Chatbooks!

Graham’s Sixth Month

Half a year…. can you believe it? It feels like we were just bringing Baby Graham through the front door and Evy was trying to hold him constantly. We spent 6 months telling her no and now, she’s finally at a place where she can be left with him on the couch beside her and we’re not completely terrified of what she’ll try to do. He’s a big boy and she’s a strong girl. I feel like this month has given us glimpses into their relationship that will exist in the future. She runs up to him and he squeals. It’s my favorite new part of his personality!
