I’ve shared this before… but as a small business owner, I have found that it’s really hard to STOP work. It’s never over, it’s never complete and it will never be 100% done. Growing a business can consume your life if you’re not careful! Michael and I, in my opinion, do a good job of not discussing “work” 24/7. That’s because WORK isn’t our LIFE… we have a life outside of our business and outside of the industry and that really helps us keep perspective. However, there are seasons that come and go when I feel like I just don’t have time off. During this past weekend and early this week, I felt this way.
We shot a wedding that was two hours away and I culled the whole way home and then went to bed and got up at the crack of dawn to lead worship at church and then left straight from church to pick up the bouquet that was an hour away for Monday’s coaching reunion and then went straight to the river to meet my family and then drove an hour home and stayed up til one making sure we were ready for the coaching reunion that was happening Monday! WHEW!!! It was non-stop! I realize I do this to myself… and after you start living that way, it becomes habit.
Well, every now and then, you have to break that habit. I needed to get my inbox under control on Tuesday. That was my goal and I was going to work until it was DONE… and then Michael said he had a surprise for me. In the back of my mind I was thinking “That’s sweet but I don’t have time for a surprise.”… And then I realized that I was saying and immediately called it quits for the day. If your husband wants to surprise you with something, the worst thing I could do would be to say “Not today, I need to spend quality time with Gmail.” That would not go over well. So we got in the car and he took me to get a pedicure!! It sounds simple but it meant a lot to me because sitting in a massage chair for an hour and getting pampered isn’t something I have “time” for… and he knows that. He also knows that even if we tried to plan a time for this, it probably wouldn’t happen and so he just surprised me! …. And I love him for that…. my feet love him too:) I’m very thankful to be married to a man that knows me and knows what I need sometimes more than I do. So hopefully this little post can be a reminder to those of you out there that are workaholics! Remember to take a break and take care of your FEET!! :):) Have a wonderful Thursday!
Oh where do I begin? This wasn’t just another wedding for me. This was a legacy KJ Wedding and I have been looking forward to it ever since my first email from Danny and Megan!
I’m really excited about this YouTube video because I know that it resonates with ALL photographers who photograph PEOPLE!!
Have you ever walked into a client experience and realized “oh wow, this is not what I was expecting?” ….
