Sure, it’s a little harder for the guests to have to take off work, but besides that inconvenience, there aren’t a ton of cons to having a Friday or Sunday wedding! There are, however, many perks for the BRIDE and for the PHOTOGRAPHER!
PERKS OF A FRIDAY WEDDING FOR THE BRIDE & GROOM:
- Venue discounts! This isn’t always true but in my experience, I know a lot of venues that offer discounts to couples that aren’t interested in a Saturday wedding!
- More Venue Options! This is true for both the Wedding and the Rehearsal venues! This comes in handy if you’re late in the planning process.
- Longer Weekend for Family! When your wedding is on a Friday that means your guests can stay in the area for another night and enjoy the weekend. They aren’t rushing home because work begins bright and early the next day. This is especially important for all of the out of town family members!
- Flights! The Bride and Groom can take Saturday to relax instead of hopping on their flight the next morning at 5am!
- Guests still have a weekend! This is especially true if the wedding is local for most guests. If the ceremony is at 6pm, guests could take a half day of work, attend the wedding and still have Saturday and Sunday to relax and enjoy the weekend!
- More Vendor Options! If you are planning a wedding in 8 months or less, this will be helpful to you. We book about a year in advance and so when brides email us for a date in June during the month of November, I’m praying that they are having Friday wedding so that we can be a part of it!! Friday weddings allow couples to have more options with their vendor selection!
PERKS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER:
- Double Headers! Some wouldn’t say that this is a perk because they are literally painful. My feet HATE me after a double header weekend but this is ideal for us. I know that when we have kids one day, we’ll enjoy having two weddings a weekend because that means we can take two weekends off! I would rather work super hard in one weekend and have some time off!! Michael and I actually enjoy the challenge of a double header and I’m not trying to brag, but we’re pros at them! :)
- We still have a weekend too! Michael and I try to only book a few Sunday weddings a year because we really cherish our Sundays and we try to keep them as “rest days”. So this is why we LOVE Friday weddings because even if we still have two weddings to shoot, we’ll still have part of the weekend for ourselves!
- Double the work, double the income! Our double headers save us in the off season. There are months that go by when we don’t shoot at ALL! We save during our busy months in order to sustain our income during the dead season and double headers really help with that!
Michael and I love a good Friday wedding and we’re actually going to be shooting one today! Congrats to Jeff and Julia!! Sometimes change from Tradition is a good thing… I mean, I’m super thankful that they don’t just serve mints and punch at receptions anymore! No offense Momma and Daddy ;) Weddings have evolved and new trends have emerged.
