Don't delete - editors note style

I equip purpose-driven entrepreneurs and photographers to turn their story into connection—and their gifts into lasting impact.

hey friends, i'm katelyn

When I was first starting out, I remember looking at my photos and thinking…

“It just doesn’t look like what I saw in person.”

“Why does this feel so busy?”

“My subject’s in focus, but something’s still off…”

Sound familiar?

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by your images — even when the lighting and settings seem right — you’re not alone. And here’s the truth that changed everything for me:

The problem usually isn’t your gear. It’s your framing.

Why Your Photos Might Feel “Off” — Even If You’re Doing Everything Right

You know how to find light. You’ve worked on your editing. Maybe you’ve even started shooting in manual mode.

But if your subject keeps getting lost…

If your image feels cluttered or unpolished…

It’s probably not your lens.

It’s what’s inside your frame.

Most photographers (my past self included!) aren’t taught how to see the frame with intention.

We point, click, and hope it feels right.

But when you learn to compose with clarity, everything changes!

My Early Days: Shooting in Parking Lots and Patchy Light

I didn’t start out with perfect locations or dreamy backgrounds!

In fact, I’ve shot in tight backyards, chaotic church parking lots, and fields that were way less dreamy than they looked online.

But what truly elevated my work was learning how to use two powerful tools:

  1. Clearing the chaos in the frame
  2. Framing my subject with purpose

I started asking different questions before I clicked the shutter:

  • What’s stealing attention from my subject?
  • Can I move, crop, or shift my angle to simplify the frame?
  • Am I using the natural environment to highlight my subject, or is it competing with them?

And slowly but surely, my photos began to feel clean, professional, and scroll-stopping.

I started getting more WOW comments, more shares from my brides and more people seeking me out for my specific skill set.

And the best news??

This kind of eye isn’t something you’re born with…you can learn it!!!

A Free Resource to Help You Train Your Eye

If you’ve ever wished your photos looked as good as what you saw in your head — this is for you.

I created a free resource called:

The Framing Guide: From Cluttered to Clean

It teaches you:

  • How to simplify your frame so your subject stands out
  • How to use natural frames (like trees, doors, and windows) to polish your image
  • Real before & after examples from my own work — so you can see the shift in action

This isn’t about rules, it’s about learning to see differently!

You Don’t Need a New Camera. You Need a New Lens on Composition.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent time wondering if a new lens or upgrade will make the difference.

But the most transformational shift I ever made wasn’t about gear, it was about vision.

Once I learned how to clear distractions and compose with clarity, everything changed. And I want that breakthrough for you too.

Grab the Framing Guide now and start creating images that feel clean, intentional, and uniquely you.

You’re closer than you think!!
