Hope and Jesse are the sweetest couple. You can just feel it when you’re with them! You can see it when you watch them interact. You can hear it in the stories that their family members and best friends shared about them. They are truly soulmates and best friends. They have an undeniable love for one another and that is why even a rainy, misty wedding day could be incredibly vibrant, warm and joyful!!
We showed up on the wedding day and the sprinkles were starting to fall. We brushed it off as nothing and prayed that the 50-60% chance of rain that we had seen on the forecast would dissipate and the sun would make an appearance! That didn’t happen. The exact opposite happened. As I was photographing details outside of the bridal suite, the heavens opened up and the rain came pouring down. It wasn’t just a little spritz…. it seemed like it was setting in and my heart sank. Hope and Jesse had picked the most amazing venue for their wedding day. We traveled so far and they had invested so much. I was racking my brain for ideas of how to create beautiful portraits!
We decided to change the plan of not doing a first look and planned to do one quickly. We sped up hair and makeup and rushed outside when a break came from the rain!! They shared the sweetest first look before the rain came back again and then we hid under a tree! The rain cleared again for the ceremony and then came back. Then, it cleared for good and the SUN CAME OUT!!! We had just minutes of glow and it was GLORIOUS!!! It totally made their collection of portraits feel complete and exactly what I hoped for for them!!!
What an honor to be the ones to capture their day!!! Michael and I loved getting to meet Hope and Jesse’s families, celebrate alongside of them and document their love!!! Enjoy my favorites!

32 Years. Over three decades. Can you image the impact? My dad accepted the call to our tiny little part of Virginia when I was just 18mos old.
Off season is here!! For wedding photographers, this is hopefully a time to rest and rejuvenate before busy season kicks back in. This is also a great time to focus on some back-end business tasks you might have had on your plate for a while now.
2021 was a year to remember! I decided to close out YouTube for the year, by reflecting back on life lessons 2021 taught me – what worked, what didn’t and what I hope to remember as I move into 2022.
You guys know talking about the tech side of a photography business is not my expertise… but thankfully it IS Tyler’s!!! I asked him to take over this YouTube video because I want to help you figure out which Mac is going to be the best one for you (even though I shouldn’t be the one to help you with that!!)!
It’s been years since I’ve done a round-up of some of my favorite images from the year! I struggle to narrow these down and so I decided to showcase some of the images with the best candid emotions!
Welcome back to another Behind the Image! In this series I take you behind the scenes of a real wedding day and then analyze one image! Today we’re analyzing an image from a wedding we shot back in May that should NOT have worked…but it did!!
