I don’t want this to come across as me not being grateful…. I’m so very grateful for this season of our life. But if I can be honest…. working together as a husband/wife team is HARD. It’s not this fairytale that some people think it is. Don’t get me wrong… it’s AWESOME to not be bound by a schedule and to have the freedom to create the life that we want… but everything comes with a price. The price we have to pay is struggling with life balance, the battle of trying not to step on each other’s toes, the little fights we have over our “tones” and most importantly, trying not to argue about who’s fault it was that we lost a lens cap. :)
Michael and I have a wonderful but weird life. We work from home…. and dozens of Hampton Inn’s around the country. Seriously…. we’re almost Diamond status. We don’t have set office hours because EVERY week… scratch that…. every DAY is different. There is absolutely no routine except that he constantly makes my life easier when I have melt downs. :) This is a weird life but it’s the life we’re made for. This week we were flooded with so many SWEET sweet gifts and thank you cards from coaching clients, brides and industry friends. It made the hard days worth it. It made me realize that my freak outs were only causing breakouts and I need to just chill.
It makes me appreciate what I’m called to do instead of worrying that I’m not doing it well enough. It makes me realize that serving people with my husband by my side is really all I could ever ask for and our areas of struggle are only temporary. We can get better at the way we handle conflict… we can commit to being better about sticking to our roles in business and trusting each other to get stuff done… we can work harder to forgive each other when we have “the tone”… because ultimately, we’re working together for a bigger purpose.
The thing about being a husband and wife team is that we can’t do it on our own. We need the help and advice of others to thrive and so I’m excited to share that a TON of incredible husband/wife teams have come together to share their BEST advice about working side by side with their spouse!!
