There are SO many places to start marketing a business… Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, your website.. the list goes on!! You only have 24 hours in a day and you have to use those hours wisely! So where do you start?!

If you’re investing in a camera- start with a mirrorless camera body! DSLR’s are not improving, expanding or innovating and you will have to backtrack if you first learn a DSLR. HERE is a great option for a mirrorless camera that can be the same price as a DSLR! If you’re looking to expand your equipment beyond the camera body, I have all of my KJ Faves in one place for you!
I started my business in 2008, and I only had Facebook and blog posts to market my business.. and I posted DAILY!
With so many avenues for social media, pick ONE that suits you best and pour your time into that! You can then re-use that same content on different platforms… It doesn’t need to be unique for each one!
I have seen THOUSANDS of businesses transformed by education. There are SO many free resources out there! Start with free resources to find someone you resonate with, relate to and appreciate their teaching style!
With free education, you can ABSOLUTELY change parts of your business. But you will have to piece it all together yourself… When you invest in a course or a mentor, this will give you a well-rounded foundation for the parts of your business that you need to solidify!!
And if you’re overwhelmed with making a website, there are a LOT of resources to help you make it look professional that will grow with you as your business grows! I recommend using a template with Showit as the platform! I highly recommend Jen from TONIC, and you can use the code ‘KJSENTME’ for 15% off. You can use a free site host, but that will ultimately hinder you from growth down the road!
Education is the TOP priority in all of this! You want to make your client experience amazing, WOW them with incredible images and feel confident while doing so!
These are the top 5 changes I would make if I was starting my business now versus 2008! In today’s video, you’ll hear more on these topics and how to effectively start a business now!!

I don’t know if I have ever photographed a more gracious bride in the most horrendous heat! Seriously, Kelsey is a literal angel on earth. She brought her entire family to Virginia from South Dakota for this portrait session and was so incredibly kind even in the midst of 100 degree heat and humidity!
Lenses are NOT cheap, so when you invest, you want to make sure you’re choosing the best option!
If you think about a wedding day and the part that makes you cringe is having to interact and direct the groomsmen, I get it.
This was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have ever seen, but the timeline didn’t quite pan out like we had planned.. The rings got lost, hair & makeup went long, storms were rolling in and there were some stressful moments!
