Most of the time, the problem isn’t your offer—it’s your brand voice.
In this post and podcast, we’re going to break down what your voice really is (beyond just tone), why it’s the secret to connection and trust, and how to start clarifying yours so your marketing finally sounds like you.
What Is a Brand Voice, Anyways?
Your brand voice is the living personality that carries your words into rooms you’re not in. Yes, tone matters (how something sounds), but voice is broader:
- Personality in your words: What people experience because of the way you say things.
- Consistent feeling: The impression people get when they encounter your brand—on stories, in emails, on a sales page, or in person.
- Bridge from heart to content: Voice is how your vision (what you care about and who you serve) crosses into your communication.
Quick reflection: What do you want people to feel when they experience your brand voice?
Why Your Brand Voice Matters
Here’s why this matters so much: before anyone ever books or buys with you, they have to feel a connection. And that connection always comes before conversion!
People buy from people, not just products.
Your voice also becomes a bridge to trust, and that trust is what makes you memorable.
Visibility alone isn’t enough. You don’t want people to scroll past and think, “Oh, I’ve seen her before.”
You want them to remember you, to feel something that makes them come back.
And honestly, even the most perfectly written caption or the trendiest Reel will fall flat if the voice behind it is weak!
The good news? You already have a voice. You don’t have to create it out of thin air—you just need to curate it, refine it, and start using it with intention.
The Brand Voice Formula
Who you are + Who you’re for = Your brand voice
In other words…
Your brand voice is the way your personality and convictions meet the needs and experiences of the people you’re here to serve.
If you are having trouble addressing each of those parts of my brand voice formula, ask yourself these questions:
- Who am I as a person and a leader?
- Who am I for? What do they need to hear from someone like me?
- What experience do I want them to have when they’re with my brand?
Three Voice Anchors to Keep You Consistent
So how do you actually keep your voice consistent once you’ve started practicing it? I like to think of three simple “voice anchors” that help you stay grounded.
The first is your tone.
The way you say something completely changes how it’s received!
Think about it: “Everyone get together, please” said with warmth is very different from a flat “Get together.”
Same words, totally different impact. One of the best things you can do is record yourself (whether it’s on stories or even during a client interaction) and play it back.
Ask yourself, Do I sound like the person I want to be online? If not, don’t panic! Just adjust and try again.
The second anchor is your signature phrases.
We all have them! Those little sayings we repeat without even realizing it.
And those phrases? They’re gold. When you pull them into your captions or stories, your audience starts to associate them with you.
Maybe it’s, “Here’s the deal…,” or “It doesn’t have to be that way,” or even, “Be honest with yourself.”
Repeating them trains your people to recognize your voice anywhere they hear it.
And the third anchor is simply a filter question.
Before you hit publish, pause and ask: Does this sound like me talking to someone I truly want to help?
If the answer is yes, you’re aligned. If the answer is no, that’s your cue to rework it until it feels more like you. This one little question will keep your content both human and helpful, and that’s the sweet spot!
Real‑Life Sharing Without Oversharing (The 5% Share)
You don’t have to share every single moment of your life to build trust!
Small, specific stories build trust.
There’s no need to reveal your whole life. Just choose a light, everyday moment (the car-battery mishap, the rushed morning, the win you almost missed), connect it to a takeaway, and move on!
Keep it to ~5% of your content; the point is relatability!
Creating moments where you audience says “Oh that’s just like me too!” and they build a bridge of relatability to you which causes them to further their trust in what you are sharing.
Common Lies—and Better Truths
A lot of us get stuck in the same lies about our voice. Maybe you’ve thought, “My voice isn’t special.”
But here’s the truth…your voice is exactly what someone out there needs!
Generic never connects, but specific always does.
Maybe you’re thinking “I’m not good at this…”
The truth is, clarity comes from consistent practice, not from waiting until you have the perfect plan!
And if you’ve ever believed, “I need a copywriter to have a voice,” let me set you free: a writer can polish and refine, but only you can discover your voice, by actually using it!!
Think of this season as the dressing room. You’re just trying things on!
You’ll record a story, play it back, and notice how it lands.
You’ll pick one signature phrase and weave it into your captions, your emails, your Reels for a week just to see if it fits.
You’ll share one small “5% story” from your real life, and watch how people connect with it.
And then you’ll pay attention: what resonated, what felt natural, what fell flat.
You keep what works, you let go of what doesn’t, and you keep trying again.
That’s how your brand voice takes shape. Not in one perfect plan, but in the practice of showing up as you.

Putting It All Together
So here’s how it all ties together: when the vision you have for your business meets the exact people you’re called to serve, and you show up with a consistent voice, something powerful happens.
Your brand stops feeling like a marketing machine and starts feeling like you.
That’s when people remember you, trust you, and connect with you on a deeper level.
Because they’re not just hearing polished words, they’re experiencing the real person behind them!
