Most entrepreneurs don’t have a marketing problem…they have a brand booster problem.
What Is a Brand Booster?
A brand booster is just a small, intentional glimpse into your real life—the stuff that makes you you.
It’s not about following trends or posting perfectly polished, Pinterest-worthy moments.
It’s about sharing those quirky, everyday things that make people say, “Oh my gosh, same.”
When you start using brand boosters, they turn into your secret marketing weapon.
They…
- Humanize your brand so you’re more than just what you sell.
- Build real emotional connections that naturally lead to loyalty (and yes, sales).
- Help you stand out in an overcrowded, noisy, AI-driven world.
Because here’s the truth: without them, your “magnet” to attract the right people just isn’t strong enough to cut through all the noise.
When I first started my photography business at 20 years old I had zero marketing budget.
My “office” was my dorm room, my iMac balanced on top of my sock drawer, and my only strategy was to blog about my life.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but when I casually mentioned my love for Diet Mountain Dew and gummy bears, something happened…
Clients started showing up to sessions with little gift bags filled with them!!
And the thing is, they weren’t buying me soda because they shared my obsession… they were doing it because they knew me.
And when people feel like they know you, they’re already halfway to trusting you!
Why They Work for Everyone—From Beginners to Millionaires
Whether you’re a brand-new entrepreneur or running a multi-million-dollar business, brand boosters create a bridge between your audience and your offer.
Think of it this way:
- You wouldn’t trust someone who only ever talks about their work.
- You trust people when you see the person behind the work.
Brand boosters fill that gap!!!
Examples From My Own Journey
In the last year we’ve discovered hidden mold in our home and it sent us down a long, unexpected health journey.
I started sharing bits of that process online. Not because it had anything to do with photography or business, but because it was part of my real life in that season.
To my surprise, I started getting messages from people who were walking through similar situations or who had never considered mold as a possible cause for their own health struggles!
That simple, honest sharing built trust and connection in a way no sales post ever could.
And I can’t not tell you about how my dad became our best brand-booster for Acton Academy!!
While building our micro-school, “Mr. Granddaddy” (my dad) accidentally became another brand booster.
He was always around campus helping, and every child knew him—not as Kevin—but as Mr. Granddaddy.
He wore a wide-brimmed hat while working outside and people in the community thought we were an Amish bakery, ha!!!!
That became a core shareable part of our Acton journey on Instagram and my dad’s presence became part of the heart of our brand.
Did it immediately bring more families?
No, but it’s just a part of deepening the trust and making families feel like they were part of something personal and meaningful.
How to Find Your Brand Boosters
- Ask yourself: “Am I the only one who…?”
- Look around your daily life—your quirks, habits, or routines that might make someone say, “Me too.”
- Share them casually, especially in Instagram Stories.
Remember: You don’t have to share everything!!
I share about 5% of my life online.
The key is intentionality, not oversharing.
Brand Booster Examples In Others
I see brand boosters play out all the time with other business owners I admire.
My friend Jen Olmsted, co-founder of Tonic Site Shop, uses her witty, storytelling-style emails as a brand booster that makes people actually look forward to hearing from her.
I also love following her because of her gorgeous food posts that have nothing to do with web design but everything to do with her style!
Then there’s Dani Austin, founder of Divi Hair, who balances the glamorous side of her business with unfiltered “hot mess” motherhood moments, creating a relatable connection for millions.
And my friend Becca Foxwell, who sells resources for teachers, once posted about buckling in her Chipotle order before driving home—it exploded with engagement because it made people laugh and think, “I love Chipotle that much too!”
None of these things directly sell a product, but they all create trust, connection, and loyalty—the very things that lead to sales!!
Brand Booster Myths You Might Believe
Before you start brainstorming your own, let’s clear up a few lies that might be holding you back from even trying.
- “There’s nothing interesting about me.” False! Your normal is someone else’s “wow.”
Example: You might think your habit of always packing popcorn for road trips is boring—but to someone else, it triggers a happy memory from their childhood. - “No one will care.” False! Connection is built in the small, shared moments.
Example: I once posted about killing every plant I’ve ever owned, and my DMs were flooded with people admitting the same. - “I’d have to share my whole life.” False! You control what you share and how often.
Example: I share about how my youngest son loves to run everywhere we go, but the internet doesn’t know his favorite foods or what makes him laugh…that’s just for us! You get to create the boundaries.
