Hi there! I’m Katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. Thriving instead of just Surviving

  • Resources for Our Season of Uncertainty

This honesty feels like nothing else that I have ever experienced before in my life. The isolation, the worry and the unknown remind me of when we were in the process of losing Baby James but other than that, I can’t remember a time that felt so strange. • A Tulsa, Oklahoma Destination Engagement Shoot

This shoot. Where do I start? How about the VERY beginning! We had just landed and were in our rental car when I noticed that it was only 2:30pm and it seemed DARK to me. The clouds were heavy and the rain was coming. I knew about the rain but the dark clouds and dreary skies had me worried about LIGHT. If we started at 5:30…. two hours before sunset, by the time 6:30 rolled around, I would be struggling to keep this couple under cover and also exposing properly without a flash.

  • Why I started a Youtube Channel & what this means for you!

There is a common theme in my business…. and I’m totally ok with it… I’m actually HONORED that this happens constantly. When I decide to CHANGE something in my business, there is a swarm of other business owners who are watching and want to know if they need to change too. I get it. Back in the day, I watched Jasmine Star like a hawk (Jstar, if you read this, it wasn’t in a creepy way, I promise!)
