Hi there! I’m Katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Scott + Courtney | Engaged

  • Scottsdale, AZ Desert Engagement Shoot

Our dear friends, Amy and Jordan, live out in Arizona, and I just love their work! It’s so glowy and has tones that we just can’t get in Virginia! So, when Scott and Courtney booked and we realized that we would BOTH be at the United Conference this fall, I was so excited that they were on board for a desert session!! We snuck off to a beautiful park after the conference had ended, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening!!! I felt like I truly got to experience beautiful desert “glow”, and it was amazing!!!!

Brandon + Jessica | Engaged

Brandon and Jessica’s engagement session was my final local shoot for the season and it was perfection! The weather was beautiful and the light was golden! Not only were the locations and the light beautiful, I quickly realized that these two are incredibly photogenic! I don’t think they even realize how amazing they are in front of the camera. We met at the Capital and then headed down to one of Richmond’s more historic streets, Monument Avenue. This session was perfectly timed because the trees AND the streets were still full of colorful leaves and that is always my #1 goal for late fall shoots!

Everly’s Eighth Month

This is the first month where I have seriously considered not doing a monthly Evy post. It’s our busiest month. We’re creating and releasing a new course, we’re shooting weddings EVERY weekend, Evy is teething and had a cold, we’ve had 5 engagement sessions, and we’re finishing our basement and turning it into an apartment. Wow. It’s a lot! In between editing video files, creating a massive workbook, preparing for a webinar, editing wedding blog posts and engagement galleries, I made some time to do something that brings me joy personally, and that’s organizing images of Evy’s life!
