Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Anyone Know a Great Window Washer?!

  • The New House

house post gave you a quick view of the FRONT of our new house… now it’s time for a view of the BACK! Honestly, I think I like the back better than the front!! …. I’m actually dead serious. As much as I love the stone… the back shows off the whole reason we picked this floor plan…. LIGHT! And LOTS of it!! As a photographer, I love LIGHT and little Cape Cods really don’t have much light to offer. So when we stepped foot into the model and saw the amount of windows that came STANDARD with this floor plan, we were in LOVE!! For those that have built a home in a subdivision, you know how annoying all of those “upgrades” can be.

& Why We're Bad Puppy Parents

  • Bokeh Boy

on our way home today from the amazing CONNECT Retreat in Roma, GA and while I’m excited to be home, I feel a little guilty at the same time. We dropped Bokeh boy off with his grandparents, AGAIN last friday. We shot a wedding in DC and then flew out the next day for the retreat. We get home tonight and shoot a wedding tomorrow and we won’t see Bokeh boy until SATURDAY night!!! Ugh!! We’re such bad puppy parents!!! There are times when I think he forgets who his real parents are…obviously that would be us. :) He spends a lot of time with his grandparents and we’re SO thankful that they are just 50 minutes up the road!

Mount Ida Farm Wedding Photographer

  • Mike + Jessica | Engaged

decided that if I didn’t love Richmond so much, I would move to Charlottesville in a heartbeat! The rolling hills outside of that adorable city are just stunning! Tucked away on 6,000 acres is the historic Mount Ida Farm! This property is the largest privately owned stated in Virginia! Talk about impressive! It’s so gorgeous. The coordinator and property manager for Mount Ida loaded Mike, Jess and I up into a massive hummer and we toured the property for their engagement shoot! I’m so thankful that we had a guide throughout this property because there is just SO much land! I wouldn’t have known where to even begin!!
