Hi there! I’m Katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

Max + Nicole | Engaged

  • Historic Downtown Richmond Engagement Session

This beautiful session from so many gorgeous locations in downtown Richmond is so special to us for many reasons! First, this sweet couple drove over 12 hours for their shoot! Can you believe that?! That is one amazing road trip! There is no denying that they were dedicated to having amazing engagement portraits. Secondly, Nicole is a photographer and attended one of our workshops back in 2014!! It’s fun to have a familiar face in front of my camera but it’s also so amazing to photograph another photographer!!

Alec + Courtney | Engaged

You may be thinking “Wow, do you guys live up in the DC area, because you seem to be up there all of the time!”, but that’s just because it’s engagement season! It just so happens that a majority of our sweet 2019 couples are living in the DC area and so we used some classic, historic locations in that area for their engagement sessions! This one was beautiful! Alec and Courtney were so easy to talk to and get to know. As soon as we introduced ourselves, it felt like we had known them forever! As we walked around Alexandria, we heard about their families, their wedding planning, their jobs, and what they love most in life.

Chris + Emma | Engaged

  • A Classic Georgetown Engagement Session

I remember photographing James and Maggie’s wedding and just loving the fact that Maggie was so close with her sisters. My sister is my best friend and so I guess I notice other sweet sister relationships more readily because of that. All of these girls are just beautiful. They look so much like their mom and I loved photographing this amazing family! During Maggie and James’ reception at Pippin Hill Farm, I remember Maggie’s mom saying “We can’t wait to give you a call when it’s Emma’s turn!”.
