Hi there! i’m katelyn.

Hello, and welcome to the KJ Blog! I'm Katelyn James, and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team based in Richmond, Virginia. We hope you grab some coffee (or a diet coke, in my case) and enjoy viewing our latest work, browsing resources for photographers, and getting a little peek into our life!  Read more...

MOCA Virginia Beach Wedding

  • Ken + Jessica

The weather was a little threatening. An 105 degree forecast is enough to make a photographer cringe. Michael packed me two water bottles and I headed down to Virginia Beach. I met Jill for lunch and we prepared for the big, HOT day! As soon as we arrived, we were grabbing our bags from the car and Jess’s bridesmaids came out to greet us. It just got better from there. The house was full of excitement and you could just feel the anticipation the whole day! We kept cool until the first look and then the heat wave hit. I was drenched but somehow, Ken and Jess still looked amazing! It was hot but they just kept on going and I thought to myself “I love these two!”. They cared about their portraits

July 2012

  • The Snapshot

It’s JULY?! Oh man this summer is flying by! I knew June would be a quick one since it was such a BUSY one but MAN!…. That was REALLY fast!! I feel like I’m living in a whirlwind between traveling and shooting and tornados! Yess… tornados. Virginia has been experiencing some pretty crazy weather recently. We’re talking hail, high winds, no power, heavy rain and 105 degree days! Yup. Try shooting a wedding in 105 degrees with 80% humidity. You’ll be drenched in a matter of seconds. That is what my weekend consisted of but let me tell you, the two weddings I shot this weekend were WORTH the heat!! They were stunning and I can’t wait to share!

Facebook Funnies & a Little Inspiration

  • Good Things

of those posts that you may read and think “Oh, poor Katelyn, she didn’t know what  to blog today”.  Well, that’s actually not true. I have written on my blogging calendar “A whatever day”.  That basically means… “blog whatever I can think of because I’m about to shoot a double header and I don’t have time to blog”.  There. I’m being honest! I planned in advance for this to be a small post. Small but meaningful. Very meaningful.  I mean, how much better can it get? I’m providing you with a friday full of laughs.  These are little bits and pieces from the internet that either made me LOL or laugh so hard I cried. I like to call them “Facebook Funnies”.
