noticeable change happening in our life right now. It’s called “The End of Wedding Season”. It’s the time of the year when things begin to slow down a bit. I start going to bed at a decent hour… and sure, there is still a ton to be done but it’s more manageable. I have time to work on albums, hunker down on big projects and still end the workday at 6pm. The GREATEST part of this new season is that I have several WORK FREE Saturdays! Isn’t that wonderful?! I’m trying to get better at turning my “work” mind off when it’s after hours. If you’re a small business owner (aka workaholic)…. it’s hard to do. My whole family was watching the VA/VT game on Saturday
and I was designing Christmas cards and thinking about…. you guessed it… WORK. I’m realizing that if I’m going to get WORK off my mind, I have to CHOOSE to not think about it….. it’s not going to happen naturally. I’m WIRED to run a small business…. and I think it’s a good thing to be constantly dreaming and moving forward but there are moments when we need a break. Our minds need a break. Thinking about OTHER THINGS and doing activities that are non-work related will ultimately help you grow as a business owner. Everyone needs a refresher every now and then!! Last night, my refresher was Christmas decorating. Michael brought in all of the multiple boxes of garland, ornaments and candles and I went to town. Now, our house can be decorated in an hour and a 1/2… it’s tiny!! But that little amount of time that I was focused solely on something else was good for me!!! If you struggle with getting WORK off the brain… here are a few suggestions:
1. Stay OFF the computer…. if you’re a smal business owner, even Facebook/Pinterest & Twitter pull you into work mode!
2. Make a decision to think about something else…. if you don’t DECIDE not to think about work, you’re going to, it just happens.
3. DO something! Anything! Use your free time to do something personal or for others and WITH others.
Our little living room is all decked out for Christmas and I wish it could stay this cozy and glowy all year!! Bokeh has enjoyed it too…. why? Well because our tree has fake pine cones on it and Bokeh is determined to get one off!! This is Bokeh’s first time around Christmas decor and so we’re praying he doesn’t find it very interesting!! Have GREAT week and be sure to turn work off some this week!!! xoxo
